The route starts at the regional road (ER209), in Fanal, and follows PR 13 Vereda do Fanal until it reaches, on the left, the turn-off that takes you to Levada da Rocha Vermelha.
Along the way you'll come across a steep staircase, flanked by the levada, where you can see the water's spectacular force, caused by the significant drop in elevation.
Levada da Rocha Vermelha, also known as Água do Vimieiro, originates on the Ribeira da Fajã dos Remos. Along its course, it captures and channels the waters of the Ribeira do Vimieiro from the affluents of the Ribeira do Janela and the Ribeira da Calheta, as well as from affluents of the Ribeira do Seixal, to the small loading chamber at Rocha Vermelha, located on the slope of the Ribeira da Calheta, on the Atouguia lombo.
The existing waterfalls and tunnels give this hiking trail a special charm. The various natural viewpoints provide impressive views over the Rabaçal valley and the Ribeira da Janela, dominated by the characteristic green of the Laurissilva Forest.
The Levada da Rocha Vermelha can also be accessed from PR6 Levada das 25 Fontes, located at higher elevation.
