To start, a brief aperitif
Madeira was discovered in 1419 by the Portuguese and, twenty-five years later, it already exported wine from the island to several locations in Europe. For this reason, the Madeiran wines’ quality has been globally recognized for almost 600 years.
Nowadays, Madeira Wine is still produced, a unique fortified wine quite appreciated throughout the world.
But still wines are also produced, commonly known as table wines.
They have their own personality and extract their acidity from the ancient volcanic soils, from the winds – oftentimes merciless – that hit the vines and provide an intense salinity, from the freshness of the mountains’ altitude, from diversified fruit and flower aromas, resulting from natural pollination, and from the ripening that many days of solar exposure allows.
The Madeiran wines are a gift of nature.
