In the Autonomous Region of Madeira, devotion to Our Lady of the Rosary is abundant and popular, reflected in the dissemination of various altars and chapels of worship to this patron saint, especially during the 17th and 18th centuries. Located in the north of the Island of Madeira, in the municipality of São Vicente, Our Lady of the Rosary Church is one of the great examples of worship of this patron saint. Built by the Caldeira family in the 17th century near an old chapel, in 1960 it became the seat of the new parish of Rosário.
Comprising a Mannerist structure façade, Our Lady of the Rosary Church has a longitudinal floor plan with three naves delimited by perfect round arches. Inside, the church's ceiling stands out for its depiction of Our Lady of the Rosary. Also noteworthy is the altarpiece, which dates from the late 18th century and represents the transition from rococo to neoclassical.
Don't miss Our Lady of the Rosary Church when visiting the municipality of São Vicente. You'll certainly be surprised by all its beauty, especially its beautiful interior.
