Santa Luzia Viewpoint

All those who visit the city of Funchal take away with them unforgettable images of this European capital. At the Santa Luzia Viewpoint, visitors will find one of those memorable scenarios, where the harmony between the city and Nature takes centre stage.

This observatory can be found at Imaculado Coração de Maria, raised to parish on 26 November 1954. This was mainly due to a growth in population that occurred as a result of the modernisation of the city of Funchal after the 1940s.

At that time, with the focus on international tourism and the construction of new roads, buildings and hotels, many people moved to the hillsides of Funchal where the Santa Luzia Viewpoint is located. To get there, visitors must take Rua da Levada de Santa Luzia.

Located at an altitude of 170 metres, this observatory offers a wide perspective over the city, stretching from the coastline to the mountains. At the Santa Luzia Viewpoint, visitors will find benches where they can calmly sit and enjoy the beauty of the surroundings.
