H.M. Borges, Succrs., Lda.
One of the most traditional producing companies of Madeira wine, with quite old installations and where the art of hospitality is privileged.
Founded in 1877 by Henrique Menezes Borges, the H.M. Borges Sucrs. Lda. company is currently led by two women of the family’s 4th generation and constitutes one of the main Madeira wine brands, with an excellent and significant stock of high-quality old wines. Its entire activity is centred in a centenary building, in the heart of Funchal, built at the end of the 19th century and still maintaining, to this day, all the original architectonic characteristics. From the Brazilian satin recipients (balseiros), aging areas in warm ambience (estufas) and canteiros to the bottling line, an absorbing environment due to the aromas, history and tradition. Here you can experience the true world of the Madeira wine, learning more about the history, the varieties, the production and aging techniques. In the tasting room you can enjoy a peaceful and cosy environment, where you breathe in history and art, in particular through ancient artefacts, photographs and emblematic pictures of the German artist Max Römer, which decorate the room and are part of the H.M. Borges’ assets.
