SAP Extreme Sailing Team wins the 3rd Stage of the ESS
Held between the 29th of June and 2nd of July at Cais 8. in Funchal, Madeira Island, the third stage of the Extreme Sailing Series™ world circuit was won by the Danish SAP Extreme Sailing Team in the GC32 Stadium Racing category.
In second place was Swiss team Alinghi, followed by the Oman Air team, while the young Portuguese Team Extreme team took out last place in the Madeiran stage.
In the course of the four days, the Race Village, which offered the best views of the Flying Phantoms Series and Stadium Racing (GC32 catamarans), was heavily attended and full of excitement.
The Extreme Sailing Series catamarans will now travel to Barcelona, where they will fight it out with the fastest sailing ships in the world in the next stage of this international competition between the 20th and the 23rd of July.
The Extreme Sailing Series™ is one of the most important and spectacular racing circuits in world sailing, featuring the participation of 7 teams: Land Rover BAR Academy, Alinghi, SAP Extreme Sailing Team, Oman Air, Red Bull Sailing Team, NZ Sailing Team and Team Extreme, a competition that attracts experienced sailors who have competed in the America’s Cup and the Olympic Games.
The organisation also allowed more than a dozen residents to enjoy an experience on board one of the competition catamarans, as part of a promotion by regional radio stations.
