PR 15 - Vereda da Ribeira da Janela

Vereda da Ribeira da Janela is a 2.7 km trail, which takes about 1:30 hours and follows the remnants of an old footpath which links Curral Falso (Fanal) to Ribeira da Janela.

It is a trail of moderate difficulty, which goes mainly downhill.
Beginning at regional road ER 209, in the forest area overlooking the small town of Ribeira da Janela, this trail was traditionally used to exploit the wood resources essential to the population's daily life.

Vereda da Ribeira da Janela was also the path people used to reach the villages on the south side, such as Calheta or Ponta do Sol, and thus carry barrels of wine on their backs.

When you arrive there, you will be able to observe its agricultural area, with the traditional terraced fields supported by stone walls.

Besides the vineyard, some products central to the regional gastronomy are grown there, such as potatoes, sweet potatoes, beans and maize.

The picturesque scenery of Vereda da Ribeira da Janela is marked by the position of the houses scattered across the slope, between the mouth of the stream and an altitude of 400 metres, and along the stream that gives its name to the small town, the longest watercourse on the island.
