The Honey Cake has its origins in the golden age of sugar cane production in the archipelago (19th century) and is one Madeira most emblematic delicacies.
Traditionally it is associated with Christmas season, this is because it is made in early December, on December 8th, day that celebates the tribute to Nossa Senhora da Conceição.
Round and flat, Madeira Honey Cake is, as its name implies, made with cane honey, spices, Madeira wine, and covered with nuts (almonds and walnuts).
