Emigrant and Tourist day festivities
The Parish of Atouguia, in Calheta, hosts the Emigrant and Tourist Festival, a traditional Madeiran festival which attracts many Madeirans and tourists.
The festival presents regional cuisine, live music, folklore and counts on the presence of several Madeiran singers who aim to entertain those present.
The Church, which has a basilica-like structure with a small round dome, is the first one in the Diocese of Funchal to receive a “relic” from the Pope/Blessed John Paul II, as well as a bronze tabernacle by the sculptor Ricardo Veloza.
During the festivities, the Atouguia church can be visited throughout the day and until midnight.
