The Autonomy of Madeira, established in the Portuguese Constitution of 1976, is celebrated on this day in all the municipalities of the archipelago, with several proceedings like the Official Ceremonial tribute held at the Regional Legislative Assembly; the placing of flowers at the Statue of Autonomy by regional official entities; and the “Te Deum” religious ceremony that takes place at Funchal’s Cathedral.
July 1st is a public holiday in Madeira Islands.
