The island of Madeira, because of its privileged geographical position and mountainous relief, have a surprisingly mild climate.Very mild average temperatures, 25ºC in the summer and 17ºC in the winter, and a moderate level of humidity, confer upon this island exceptional subtropical features.
The seawater temperature is also very mild, because of the influence of the warm Gulf current, presenting averages of 22ºC in the summer and 18º in the winter.

The Monte Municipal Garden, located at an elevation of 550 metres, has an area of 26,000 m2 with various indigenous and exotic species and some centuries-old trees.

The Monte park or the Leite Monteiro Park is the municipal garden located at the highest elevation, 550 m.
This lovely green space has various indigenous and exotic species and some centuries-old trees.
At the entrance there is a gazebo and the Virgin Spring, with a niche containing the image of Nossa Senhora do Monte (Our Lady of Monte). In the centre of the park, there is a lake that has a map of Madeira island carved in stone.
