Cristiano Ronaldo – a “Made in Madeira” football ace
Cristiano Ronaldo dos Santos Aveiro was born in Funchal on the 5th of February, 1985, having begun his career in the youth league teams at Andorinha de Santo António football club.
In 1995 he was transferred to national sports at Clube Desportivo Nacional and his success with the team led him to sign up with Sporting Clube de Portugal for two seasons.
Ronaldo's precocious talent attracted the attention of Sir Alex Ferguson, Manchester United trainer. In 2003, when he was only eighteen years old, Ronaldo signed a contract with the English club.
Ronaldo became the greatest goal scorer in one season in the history of Real Madrid, for which he had signed for the season of 2009/2010. He is the Captain of the Portuguese football team and in April 2012 was considered the most valuable football player in the world.
