    PR 6.2 Levada do Alecrim (Rabaçal - Lagoa da "Dona Beja")

    Distance: 1,8m (+ 1,8km return) Degree of dificulty: Easy

    The route begins near the regional road (ER105), at the Rabaçal area, and goes along the Levada do Alecrim or Levada Paul I, located 1300 meters high, until the spring of the levada, at the Ribeira do Lajeado (Lajeado Creek).

    PR1 - Vereda do Areeiro

    Distance: 6,1km (VO) | 7km (VE) Degree of dificulty: Moderate

    This route has an extension of VN 7.4km (north trail) and VS 8.7km (south trail) and has a duration of 3.30 hours connecting the two highest peaks of Madeira, it is a sensational hike, with tunnels, a few steep climbs and descents and breathtaking views of the heart of the Massif Central.


    ( Note: This footpath is accessible through the western part (tunnels) . The eastern part of the footpath near Pico das Torres remains closed).

    Starting at Ribeiro Frio, this short walk follows the levada of Serra do Faial, and gives access to the Balcões viewpoint with superb views over the valley of the Ribeira da Metade.

    PR12 - Caminho Real da Encumeada

    Conditioned Access Distance: 12,5 km Degree of dificulty: Moderate

    Crossing part of the central mountain massif, this walk crosses the foot of some of the highest peaks on Madeira, and gives a glimpse of Curral das Freiras in its mountain stronghold. This is an old ‘Royal Path’, that was paved and used as one of the main routes across the island by the landed gentry.


    Note: The footpath between the Kilometric Point PK 7+680 (PK 0+000 at Boca da Corrida) and Encumeada will be temporarily closed to people, as of October 18, 2022, for a period of 18 months .
    From this section PK 7+680 there will be an alternative detour, with an extension of approximately 6.1 km, to the center of Serra de Água.

    Distance: 10.8 Km/ 5,6 Km Degree of dificulty: Moderate


    This trail starts near the E.R. 209 on the Paul da Serra plateau and ends near the Forest Police Station in Fanal. This trail connects to other paths, allowing access to the Ribeira da Janela parish through the trails PR 14 Levada dos Cedros e PR 15 Vereda da Ribeira da Janela.
