The island of Madeira, because of its privileged geographical position and mountainous relief, have a surprisingly mild climate.Very mild average temperatures, 25ºC in the summer and 17ºC in the winter, and a moderate level of humidity, confer upon this island exceptional subtropical features.
The seawater temperature is also very mild, because of the influence of the warm Gulf current, presenting averages of 22ºC in the summer and 18º in the winter.

The statue of Tristão Vaz is located in Largo da Igreja Matriz, in Machico.

This statue was built in honour of the discoverer and first Donatary-Captain of Machico for his important contribution for the economic growth of the Archipelago of Madeira.
This statue was sculpted in bronze by Anjos Teixeira and dedicated in 1972.
