Over the centuries, the excellent wine produced in Madeira has carried the archipelago's name to the four corners of the world. An inescapable part of this secular History is told at The Blandy's Wine Lodge.
This space is located in a group of Baroque civil architecture buildings, including the oldest Madeira wine cellars, dating from the 17th and 18th centuries. The old Convent of São Francisco used to stand in the vicinity before being demolished in the 19th century. In 1913 the 'Madeira Wine Association', now called 'Madeira Wine Company', was founded, through which several companies or independent growers were associated.
The Blandy's Wine Lodge currently houses a museum of great interest. In the exhibition area, visitors can witness the Madeira wine journey, from the vineyard production process to its transformation, including an explanation of its various varieties: Sercial, Malvasia, Verdelho and Boal.
In addition, at the Blandy's Wine Lodge, you can visit tasting rooms, ageing rooms and even a wine shop, offering an excellent range of products.
