Eiras Viewpoint

The Laurissilva is the most valuable heritage of the archipelago of Madeira. Around 20 million years old, this subtropical forest occupies about 20% of the island, an area of about 15,000 hectares. However, there are places where this forest takes on an even more luxurious and lively dimension. That is the case of the scenery that can be contemplated from the Eiras viewpoint.

Located in the municipality of Santana, this viewpoint takes advantage of the elevation of its location, offering visitors an ample view over the mountains of the north coast of the island of Madeira. Thus being, this viewpoint can be found near Pico da Rainha, in the parish of Ilha.

The name given to the place where the Eiras viewpoint is located - Ilha - is the result of a special characteristic that defines this place. Since this territory is surrounded by water, not seawater but from the streams that surround it, it looks like an island within another island.

From here, visitors can then peacefully enjoy a superb view over the stream valley covered by the dense Laurissilva vegetation. An image you will not forget.
