Santa Cruz Court Building

Located in a landscaped square, with a harmonious atmosphere, the Santa Cruz Court Building is an imposing monument, relevant both historically and from an architectural point of view.

Located at the entrance to the city, in Largo do Município, the Santa Cruz Court Building marks the urban landscape in an unavoidable way. It was built in 1932, thus replacing the old facilities of the Santa Cruz Court, destroyed by a fire a short time before in 1928.

Considering the historical context in which it was built, the building of the Santa Cruz Court is characterised by architectural lines typical of the Estado Novo, presenting therefore a sober and grand style.

The main façade of this building bears the coat of arms of the municipality of Santa Cruz. It also presents a rectangular plan and has three floors, with the upper two floors having two balconies that cover the entire main façade. In turn, on the side panels the slits of the eight windows are in straight lintel.

It is also important to note that the building of the Santa Cruz Court is surrounded by a garden of lively tones, where the silk floss tree (Chorisia speciosa), a tropical plant, stands out.
